The first weekend of the month delivered one of the wildest and most telling slates of the season so far, shaking up the league’s power structure once again. The Steelers opened Sunday by stunning the Colts at home, snapping Indianapolis’s momentum and halting one of the league’s most explosive offenses in its tracks. In what might go down as the game of the year, the Bears edged the Bengals in a 47-42 shootout that featured over 1,000 combined yards of offense and another collapse from Cincinnati’s historically bad defense. The Panthers pulled off perhaps the week’s biggest surprise, silencing Lambeau Field with a last-second field goal to take down the Packers and move above .500, while the Vikings celebrated JJ McCarthy’s triumphant homecoming to Michigan with a gritty win over the Lions in Detroit. Sunday evening brought another instant classic, as Josh Allen and the Bills once again got the best of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in a back-and-forth thriller that came down to the wire. And to cap things off, the Seahawks continued their hot streak in dominant fashion, dismantling the Commanders on Sunday night in a game overshadowed by Jayden Daniels’ unfortunate elbow injury that could sideline the rookie for weeks. With the trade deadline now behind us and several teams debuting key midseason additions, there’s a new top team atop the rankings and plenty of shifting elsewhere as the playoff picture begins to take shape.
