The final weekend of October featured nearly a fourth of the league on a bye week, but it still showcased some movement among teams at both the top and bottom of the NFL, as Week 8 delivered a mix of redemption stories, statement wins, and long-awaited breakthroughs that reshaped the league’s midseason outlook. The Chargers opened the slate in style, bouncing back in dominant fashion with a rout of the Vikings in Los Angeles, while the Jets pulled off the miracle of the week, rallying behind a backup-heavy offense to stun the Bengals on the road and earn their first win of the season. Down south, the Dolphins snapped out of their slump with a surprisingly one-sided victory in Atlanta, while the Bills regained momentum at just the right time, cruising past the Panthers in Charlotte before their highly anticipated showdown with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs next week. Sunday night featured a passing of the torch moment in Pittsburgh, as Jordan Love outdueled Aaron Rodgers in a student-beats-teacher performance that propelled the Packers to one of their most complete wins of the season. The Chiefs, meanwhile, stayed hot with another primetime statement, this time a commanding victory over the Commanders at Arrowhead as they prepare to continue on with their gauntlet in order hold onto their AFC West throne. As October comes to a close and the season’s second half is getting underway, the NFL’s balance of power continually shifts with contenders separating from the pack and others clawing to stay alive.
